  • 16 wonton wrappers
  • 1 cup of shiitake mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup of chives
  • 1 tablespoon of grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of crushed garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce
  • Half teaspoon of Chinese five spice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Poke the chubs with a knife and squeeze the content into a large bowl. Add the finely chopped mushrooms and chives to the pâté and mix them together. Toss your pâté mixture with the grated ginger, garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce and hoisin sauce. Add the Chinese five spice, salt and pepper to taste.

Set the wonton wrapper on a flat surface and place a teaspoon of the pâté filling in the centre. Wet the edges of the wrapper and fold it in half so it forms a triangular shape and press the edges together. Wet the corners of the triangle, fold and seal them on top of the wonton.

Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a pot or frying pan. Dip your wontons in the oil and fry them until  golden brown. Drain the excess oil on a paper towel. Serve them immediately with your favourite sauce.

Enjoy!
